After Laser Treatment for HPV Warts
Recovery instructions after laser treatment for viral warts (HPV).
Wound Care
- Redness, tenderness, and possibly blistering or charring at the treatment site are expected
- Apply antibiotic ointment and cover until healed
- For plantar (foot) warts: padding and offloading may be needed for a few days
- Healing takes 1-3 weeks depending on the size and location
Pain Management
- Pain is often more than expected, especially for plantar warts
- Paracetamol (Acamol) or dipyrone (Optalgin) as needed
- For severe pain on the feet, rest and elevation help
Recurrence
Warts have a recurrence rate of approximately 30-40%. Multiple treatment sessions are often needed. The doctor may recommend combining laser with topical treatments between sessions.
What to Avoid
- Keep the wound covered until healed - the wound may be infectious
- Avoid friction or irritation of the treated area
- Avoid swimming until fully healed
- Avoid prolonged sun exposure on the treated area
When to Contact Us
- Severe pain not responding to painkillers
- Signs of infection: spreading redness, pus, fever
- Bleeding that does not stop
- Severe swelling
